Water safety is an issue that becomes a lot more prevalent as we head into the summer months.

Visitors to swimming pools or the beach will see a huge increase in the number of lifeguards present to cope with the surge in numbers.

This video proves why it's so important to be vigilant in the water as a lifeguard had to dive into a pool after he spotted a three-year-old girl getting into trouble in the water.

The footage shows many lifeguards monitoring the busy pool as one spots a young girl who is dragged under by the waves.

Even as we watch the footage we find it difficult to spot anything out of the ordinary.

But the lifeguards sees the girl is in trouble and jumps into the pool to rescue her before pulling her to safety.

Other swimmers are still unaware of what exactly is going on as the little girl emerges from the pool.

The lifeguard said of the incident:

“I had to walk this 3 year old girl around until I could find her family.

“I have been doing this for 18 years and I am still amazed by the lack of supervision some kids get around the water.”

This isn’t the first case of a child getting into difficulty while swimming in a wave pool.

In 2012, a four-year-old boy drowned while playing in the ‘Lazy River’ at the National Aquatic Centre.
