Our newsfeeds have been filled with images of the devastation caused by the Christmas storms, but none have proven more terrifying than the following.

Around 26 children and a bus driver in Yorkshire, England had to be rescued today after their bus ran into floodwater and began to capsize.

According to reports, the children were on their way to school in North Yorkshire when their driver drove through a ‘road closed’ sign and onto a severely flooded roadway.

When the bus began to fill with water, its occupants rushed to one side of the vehicle, causing it to tilt and almost capsize.

Eye-witnesses told local media that the students panicked and became very upset, with some even smashing windows in a desperate bid to escape.

Thankfully, the driver was able to contact the emergency services, and a number of fire crews arrived on the scene shortly after. All of the children were rescued and transferred to another bus.

According to a local county councillor, an investigation into the incident is due to be carried out.

Some of the students managed to take photos of the scene, and the images have made for very disturbing viewing. This story serves as a reminder to all of us to abide by our local councils’ advice when travelling during the current bad weather.
