We all know that eating fruit and veg is vital if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Packed full of vitamins and nutrients, the benefits of including fresh fruit and veg in your diet and nutrition plan cannot be underestimated.

But if you’re struggling to include these foods in your daily diet and don’t fancy a massive overhaul, then why not make subtle changes which won’t have a massive impact on your day-to-day life, but will have a wonderful affect on your general health?

From breakfast to dessert, we’ve got you covered!

Breakfast

If you normally have toast, cereal or porridge to kick off your day, then why not include a banana in your meal? Slice a banana, add it to your cereal or porridge bowl and enjoy! This adds bulk to your breakfast and jazzes up any dull bowl of porridge.

Alternatively, slice a banana down the middle and place one half on one slice of toast and one half on the other. Again, it’s not a massive change but you’ve ticked your fruit quota for the morning!

Snacks

Get your hands on a small tub of blueberries which are readily available in most supermarkets and pick at them throughout the morning if you’re feeling peckish.

Alternatively, slice four or five carrots or peppers at the beginning of the week and store them in the fridge so you can pick at them throughout the day or throw a few in a small container if you’re on the go!

Lunch

If including an apple in your lunch sounds a little dull, then it’s up to you to make it more appealing! Why not slice your apple and dip into peanut butter for a healthy and refreshing snack?

If your normal lunch consists of a sandwich or wrap, then simply include a little more veg as a filling. You’re basically enjoying the same set lunch, but adding an extra burst of nutrients.

Peppers are a wonderful addition to any sandwich. So why not give it a go?

Dinner

This meal cries out for the inclusion of veg, so be sure to do it!

If you rely a lot on pasta and meat dishes, then be sure to include a side salad with these meals.

Something as simple as a green salad which only calls for lettuce, cucumber and scallions is the perfect accompaniment to any pasta dish.

If you’re sick of potato and have found yourself excluding this food from your diet, but can’t think of an alternative, then sweet potato is the thing for you!

Slice sweet potato into wedges, drizzle with a little oil and before you know it, you’ll want to include those tasty little veggie treats with every meal!

Desserts

Everybody love desserts, but we don’t always treat ourselves to one.

However if you’re serious about including more fruit and veg in your diet, then you’re entitled to a dessert almost every day!

Slice an orange, pop it in a bowl, throw in some berries for good measure, cover in yoghurt and enjoy!

Tips

Set aside some time on a Sunday night to prepare a large salad, which you can include with your lunch or dinner, for the rest of the week.

If you’re going to the effort of making the veg salad then why not throw together a fruit salad while you’re at it!

It won’t take longer than 20 minutes to prepare a really tasty bowl and takes the pressure off the rest of the week!
