Social services have stepped in, after a Utah family left a maze attraction on Monday night without their three-year-old son – and claimed not to realise his absence until the following day.

According to reports, the unnamed boy went to the Crazy Corn Maze in Salt Lake City, Utah with his family. At some point, the toddler got separated from the family and got lost alone in the maze.

The child was discovered by another patron at around 7:30 in the evening. He was understandably upset, to the point where he couldn’t even share his name.

The woman raised the alarm with management, who waited with the child for half-an-hour, hoping that his family would emerge to collect him.

When the family did not show up, management placed the child with a police officer, then went through the maze to find the parents. Again, they were unable to find the family.

Eventually, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services were called, and the child was placed in their care overnight.

It wasn’t until the following morning, at around 7:45am, that the child’s mother contacted the police to report him missing. She expressed that she thought she had left him behind in the 10-acre maze the night before.

Police are unaware as to how this oversight could have happened, but they told The Washington Post that the family live in a unit with a number of other families. A group of them had gone to the Crazy Corn Maze together on Monday night, when the child went missing.

Due to privacy laws, social services have not been able to disclose any further information, including whether or not the child has been released back to his family.
