Following snow showers in parts of the country last night, Met Éireann has issued a status red snow-ice warning for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath.

 

More snow showers today will add on to the 5 to 10cm accumulation of snow from last night.

 

The total snowfall may reach 25cm by midday Thursday. The status red warning is in place until noon tomorrow.

 

The cold weather overnight has caused 'significant disruption' to Dublin Bus' services this morning.

 

 

"Our services are operating on main corridors due to poor road conditions," Dublin Bus stated on their website, which has regular updates on how specific routes are functioning.

 

All of Irish Rail's services are operating on all routes, with the exception of bus transfers between Limerick and Ennis due to local flooding.

 

There are some delays on certain routes, which can be found by looking at their website.

 

While the red and green lines of the Luas are running, it is with 'very reduced frequency on both lines'. More updates on Luas lines can be found here.

 

An Garda Síochána has advised drivers to be extra careful, saying, "When driving in snow showers during daylight hours, use dipped headlights ( not day time running lights) reduce speeds and increase braking distance.

 

"Pedestrians use footpaths where provided appreciate drivers may have difficulty stopping in snowy conditions."

 

 

A status orange snow-ice warning has been issued for Wexford, Cork and Waterford.

 

Heavy snow showers in Wexford, Waterford, and south Cork throughout today, tonight, and tomorrow will generate a total snowfall of up to 8cm.

 

The status orange warning is valid through noon Thursday.

 

Regarding school closures, the Department of Education noted, "Decisions on school closures will be made locally by each school individually depending on the circumstances in their area."
