Supermarket chain Target has come under fire this weekend after a customer posted a photo showing Fifty Shades of Grey sex toys on sale beside children’s toothbrushes.
The unfortunate placement of the products came to the attention of a Twitter user, who took to the social media site to call the store out on the move.
Among the products in the Fifty Shades of Grey ‘Pleasure Collection’ are a ‘Vibrating Love Ring’ and a range of lotions.
Needless to say, concerned parents have taken to their own social media channels to voice their disapproval over having these adult products placed right where a child can find them.
One user expressed her dismay as she tweeted: “So there is a Fifty Shades of Grey- themed “vibrating love ring” for sale in Target directly across the aisle from the Hello Kitty body wash.”
While another user branded the move “disturbing”, a woman also commented that the exact same merchandising arrangement had been employed in her local store in another state.
While Target have yet to formally address the issue, they did message back the tweeter who brought it to their attention, saying: “Thanks for your comments regarding placement of personal care items in our stores. We'll share with our merchandising team.”
