When you’re heavily pregnant, even the simplest of tasks can be a chore or, in extreme cases, simply impossible; so it always helps when you meet someone who is sympathetic to your situation.

This was exactly the case for mum Amby Johnson, a heavily pregnant woman whose story has gone viral this weekend.

Amby took to Facebook to recount an incident which took place yesterday, whereby she was pulled over by a female policewoman while driving. Shortly after, a male officer pulled up behind them.

Amby, who is 38 weeks pregnant, was having a “really bad contraction” and decided to drive around a speed bump rather than over it. Rolling down her window, she fully expected to receive a ticket, but was surprised to learn that she was flashed to pull over because her licence plates had expired.

Amby quickly explained that she had the plates with her (they were actually on her back seat) but she had not asked her husband – who is in the Navy and is often away – to replace them. At this point in her pregnancy, bending over to change the plates herself was out of the question.

At first, the officers were content to let Amby go with a simple warning to apply the plates, but after a polite request, Officer Jim Allen agreed to apply them himself.

As you can imagine, Amby was incredibly grateful for this act of kindness and took to Facebook to share her story and gratitude.

“Today you don’t hear about the officers who actually do good, but I wanted to be one of the people to give credit when it’s due…It bothers me so bad that the majority of the shares [of her story] have the heading WHITE OFFICER helps BLACK WOMAN…Just see the story for what it is. A good officer helping out a woman,” she wrote, in a powerful post.

The post has since gone viral, with Officer Allen insisting that police “need to have compassion”.
