A teenage boy has been left in a critical condition following an alleged assault at his school in Fermanagh on Monday of this week.

13-year-old Oisín McGrath, a pupil of St Michael’s College Enniskillen, was rushed to hospital following the incident, the details of which have not yet been revealed.

The teenager is currently being treated in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, with his condition described as critical.

Following reports of the incident, police went on to arrest a 17-year-old boy in connection with the alleged attack. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A promising young sportsman, representatives for Oisín’s local GAA club, Belcoo O’Rahilly’s, released the following statement appealing for support for the McGrath family at this incredibly difficult time.

“The club asks all its members to keep Oisín McGrath in their thoughts and prayers. Oisín is the 13-year-old son of our secretary Sharon and her husband Nigel, and is a key member of our U14 side,” read the statement.

What a shocking report to hear this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with Oisín and his family, and we sincerely hope that he makes a full and speedy recovery.

While the details of this case have not yet been fully disclosed, it’s important to remind your children of the importance of staying safe at school.
