If you find that you’re a little bit stuck when having the 'birds and the bees' talk with your young child, then this will likely come as very good news.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has this week confirmed that it will release a new sex education book this year, free of charge.

The HSE is reported to be investing €50,000 into the production of the book, which will be specifically catered to children aged 10 years and under.

The book, which will be released to parents later in the year, is being produced in response to a HSE survey that revealed how Irish parents want to be able to talk more confidently and openly to children about sex ed.

It sounds as though the book is in good hands, with author Kathleen O’Rourke commissioned to write it.

O’Rourke was nominated for an Oscar back in 2010, in the Best Animated Short Film category, for her story Granny O' Grimm.

Illustrations and design will be provided by the Dublin-based company Igloo Promotions.

While a title has not yet been revealed, it has been confirmed that the book will deal with the human body, human reproduction and relationships.
