They say a picture paints a thousand words, and this picture does just that.

Koto Nakamura and her husband Sina Niakansfy had been preparing for the arrival of their first child together.

Expecting a daughter, the couple had already named the little one, Hinata and had a bundle of pink presents waiting for their daughter when she would arrive home.

So imagine the shock when Koto was told she had given birth to a boy.

Well, you don’t have to imagine because there was a photographer there to capture the moment.

Speaking to Today Parents, the new mum said:

“I thought everyone was joking.

“I lost words and I couldn’t believe it until I saw his bottom.”

Photographer Jes Jackson said right before the couple heard the news, they were joking about it happening after they had heard of a couple who were given the wrong gender during an ultrasound.

“We were all laughing and joking about it, saying, 'Oh gosh, as if that would happen to us'.”

Although the shock was obvious in her facial expression, Koto said ultimately she did not care what gender her baby was as long as they were healthy.

“I was shocked for a few seconds, and then it didn't matter if it was a girl or a boy.”

With a quick change of plans, the couple’s newborn son was named Taiga, a Japanese name meaning ‘big and generous’.
