Sometimes it is the simple things that make the biggest difference.

That's why we can often overlook how important it is to just spend TIME with our children.

But we all knew that, right?

But new research has shown just how vital it is to spend one-on-one time with your little one and how important it is to the emotional intelligence of your child.

Childhood expert and researcher, Dr Kristy Goodwin says that research has now found that  “even 15 minutes of focused time each day can be beneficial for your child.”

She says that spending focused time with your kids each day “boosts their brain development.”

“Studies have shown that kids who have caring maternal relationships have a bigger hippocampus (the part of the brain that’s responsible for stress response and memory).”

Children need strong maternal relationships much more than expensive education or extracurricular activities  - they need this bond to be as strong as possible to help them to learn how to form healthy attachments in their future.

It can be as simple as baking together, having a bedtime chat or going for a walk together. It is that special few minutes with no distractions that allows you to 'check in ' with your little one and to show them that they are your world and that their views count.

In this digital era where there is no time to switch off or unplug our minds, the simple art of just shooting the breeze is being slowly diminished.

So take the 10 or 15 minutes each day to connect with your child - it is far more pleasant (and cheaper) than dragging them from gymnastics to drama and on to ballet.
