We have reported on some truly beautiful marriage moments over the years, but the story of the 95-year-old flower girl has to be one of our favourites.

When journalist Emilie Voss was planning her wedding, she knew that her grandmother Alice had to play a special role in her big day.

Although the role of flower girl is usually reserved for a young child, Emilie decided to buck tradition and give her beloved Grandma Alice the honour of scattering the petals ahead of her important walk down the aisle.

Sharing beautiful photos from the day to her Facebook, Emilie paid tribute to this very special woman in her life on this, her 96th birthday.

“Happy 96th birthday to my flower girl! I don’t think Grandma Alice thought we were serious when we asked her to be part of our big day. But she did not disappoint. She will always be the most graceful, intelligent, and independent woman I know. I’m lucky to have her in my corner,” wrote Emilie.

The delighted bride added: “I know being a flower girl wasn’t what she was expecting at 95, so here’s to another year of fabulous surprises!”

We’re tearing up a little, here! What gorgeous memories to carry with them both for the rest of their lives.
