This engagement ring tweet has the internet all riled up

An engagement proposal is an exciting and often nerve-wracking process for both partners.

While the engagement ring is a big part of sealing the deal, it’s not all about the size of the bling, the most important thing is the relationship between the two partners.

So, when a young woman felt the need to shame this small engagement ring on Twitter, (which wasn’t even her ring FYI) the internet responded accordingly.

“Imagine finally being proposed to and this is the ring you’re given “, she wrote, alongside a photo of the engagement band with its modest stone, followed by five crying emoji’s.

But others weren’t impressed with her ring-shaming tactics.

Twitter users were quick to reprimand the woman who goes by the Twitter handle @Daymjina that her tweet was shallow, rude and pretty thoughtless.

"I didn't know people could be this shallow", one user responded.

While another wrote: “I think small, understated and simplistic rings are classier anyway! Would go with anything”.

“I got no ring when my husband proposed. We had no money. We worked TOGETHER and he was able to get me my dream ring two years after the wedding,” another woman wrote, reminding the young woman that it’s not all about money.

One straight-talking guy posed the question: “You marrying the ring or the man?”

Talking to Yahoo Style, the controversial Tweeter wrote: “I saw (the ring) on Facebook and thought I’d tweet about it, knowing it would trigger people”.

Despite the reaction, @Daymjina says she wouldn't take back her post.

“Look, if that’s all someone can genuinely afford, then it’s not right to reject it because you love the person.

“But if he can afford better, then it’s not bad to expect more,” she said.
