We’ve all heard how important it is to stay fit during pregnancy and to make sure you have a support system, well this expectant mum has found both of those things in the form of surfing.

Liza Edwards from Queensland in Australia isn’t giving up her love of riding the waves while carrying her unborn baby.

At 38-weeks pregnant, Liza intends to continue surfing until the birth and even told the Daily Mail “Ideally my waters will break IN the water.”

As many other surfers would tell you, there is a lot of falling off and getting back on but that never held Liza back as she has been surfing most of her life.

Wanting to build a network of like-minded-mums, Liza found a surfing mums group in her area with nearly 30 other women in it.

Meet ups and group surfs provide the social network Liza was looking for, all the while enjoying her love of surfing.

“It’s good because there are a few other pregnant women in the group.” she said.

“There’s one woman who is 28 weeks gone and I usually buddy up with her when we go out. That way I’m at the right level.” Liza added.

As difficult as this may sound, Liza assures that it’s not as tough as it looks once you know your limits and are safe.

“I am much more cautious for obvious reasons. I ride two foot waves and take it easy when I’m out there.”

“The hardest bit is paddling due to the size of my belly. I look like a turtle on the board when I paddle out.”
