Having lost her arm following a savage dog attack last August, it's no surprise that Tahlia Standley's first swimming race was an occasion for celebration this week.

The incredibly brave eight-year-old, who has undergone a staggering nine surgeries since the attack, participated in the race without the help of her prosthetic arm in a moment of courage which has touched millions of people worldwide.

In a Facebook page dedicated to their child's progress, Thalia's parents uploaded the video and accompanied the touching footage with a tribute to their beautiful daughter, writing: "Not a dry eye at the pool. Thalia's first swimming carnival. Amazing little girl."

On the Reaching Thalia Facebook page, the little girl can be seen approaching the pool to rapturous applause and chants of encouragement from supportive onlookers and classmates, all thrilled by the youngster's incredible progress over the course of the past six months.

"I saw this on FB this morning and had tears in my eyes," wrote one social media user today. "What a brave little girl and what awesome school mates who help her finish the race."

Like Alexey Romanov, this little girl is a true inspiration.
