With the Nollaig na mBan celebrations in full swing, women all over Ireland have been sharing their insight into how they are marking the day – some with hilarious consequences!

Tradition calls for the men of the house to take over chore duty while the ladies let their hair down after all the hard work over the festive season, and some families have really taken the task to heart!

We couldn’t help but giggle as Twitter user Lily shared her hilarious Nollaig na mBan experience with TheJournal.ie.

“Well. I’m after picking up my 8 and 9 year olds from school. They informed me that instead of homework, they have to do housework for little Christmas.

I spent all morning taking down decorations, put everything in the attic, cleaned, swept and dusted.

They 9-year-old wanted to teach me Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on the violin. So there I was, making awful screechy sounds, and saw my 8 year old come in with a dripping wet mop, proudly announcing he mopped the hallway and kitchen.

Omfg. The place was a swimming pool. The mop was last used about 6 months ago (as I now have a steam cleaner) I’ve spent the last 30 minutes drying the floor and had to steam it as the mop left an awful smell.

All quiet now they are cleaning their room.

He caused me more work, the little rascal.”

At least his heart was in the right place! Poor Lily, we hope she manages to enjoy what is left of her Nollaig na mBan!
