Tomorrow nights episode of The Rotunda is one of the most heartbreaking yet

There won’t be a dry eye in the house after tomorrow night’s episode of The Rotunda airs.

Young couple Carrie and Fintan are in the Rotunda for the birth of their second child. Only a year ago, Carrie was expecting their first child Ellie when they learned that she had a fatal foetal abnormality. Ellie was born at 36 weeks and died shortly afterwards. Carrie says: "I would literally be pregnant for the rest of my life if it meant that she would just still be alive... just to be able to give her a little life was nice and comforting."

Then to remember baby Ellie at the birth of her sister Sue, they chose to bring Ellie's remains into the labour suite.

Teenagers Savannah and Brandon are getting ready to welcome their first baby at The Rotunda. Keshini and Tym had a virtual romance on social media before settling in Ireland, now they’re about to become parents for the first time.  Sin Man is hoping that a radical operation on her baby before it was born will reduce its risk of developing spina bifida.

Fans were thrilled to see award winning series The Rotunda return to RTÉ  2. This series will feature eight episodes charting the highs and lows of pregnancy and childbirth in the world’s longest running maternity hospital.

For some, this will be a straightforward visit to the Delivery Suite while for others their journey to parenthood will require additional help and support from The Rotunda’s dedicated team of doctors and midwives in the hope that their babies will arrive safely. From extreme highs to devastating lows “The Rotunda” gives a unique insight into the busiest maternity hospital in Europe.

The Rotunda airs on RTÉ2 at 9.35 on September 26.
