A teenage boy has died following a party in Bexleyheath, southeast London last night.

The 18-year-old is understood to have taken laughing gas in addition to consuming alcohol - a combination which resulted in a cardiac arrest.

According to police reports, the youth was taken to hospital at approximately 11.20pm but tragically lost his fight for life in the early hours of this morning.

Commenting on the tragic event, the Metropolitan Police said: "Next of kin have been notified. A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course."

Despite numerous reports which suggest the teenage boy inhaled nitrous oxide, the police have yet to officially confirm these reports, saying: "At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained pending the findings of the post-mortem."

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased at this devastating time.
