A four-year-old girl could barely contain her excitement after being reunited with her soft toy following their separation on a London bus.

Little Mimi had returned home from a bus trip with her mother, Alex Mannion, when she realised she no longer had her beloved Bunny.

Having promised her devastated child that she would reunite her with the stuffed rabbit, devoted mum Alex appealed for help in an email which was read out by radio broadcaster Eddie Nestor.

In a wonderful stroke of luck, Sir Peter Hendy, the London transport commissioner heard the appeal and led the hunt for Mimi's missing mascot.

Commenting on the effort the commissioner went to, an eternally grateful Alex said: "Sir Peter Hendy totally took the story to heart and took it upon himself to find Bunny. He got on the phone to all the big-wigs and they found it."

Having promised her little girl that she would definitely find Bunny which Alex acknowledges was 'a dangerous thing to do', Mimi was overjoyed to have Bunny returned to its rightful owner after a night in New Cross bus station.

Recalling her daughter's reaction to being reunited with her beloved soft toy, Alex said: "When I told her they had found Bunny she jumped up and ran around hysterically. She grabbed him and clutched him in a childlike way to her chest."

The mum, who works as a freelance illustrator, has decided that Bunny is no longer eligible to travel, joking: "He is now banned from travelling. He has had his passport revoked. I just can't take her losing him again."

We're delighted to hear that Bunny is back in safe hands!
