Happy International Midwives' Day! Midwives are such a key part of our care during pregnancy and childbirth, helping us mums through some of the most difficult and rewarding moments of our lives.

International Midwives' Day is celebrated every May 5 in honour of these dedicated professionals, and was first marked in 1991.

This day has been observed in over 50 countries, with its origins coming from the 1987 International Conference of Midwives conference in the Netherlands.

And now, people from all over the globe are taking to Twitter to express their appreciation for hard-working midwives the world over:

From all of us here at MummyPages, thank you, midwives, for your indispensable work.
