Tragically, it has been reported that the little girl passed away from her injuries during the night. Our hearts go out to the family at this incredibly sad time.

Original report:

Our thoughts are with the family of a two-year-old girl who has been left in a serious condition, after being involved in a hit-and-run in Dublin yesterday.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 6.25pm yesterday evening, on the North Road at Phoenix Park.

The young child is said to have been struck by a vehicle which failed to stop at the scene. Gardaí went on to later arrest a 24-year-old man in connection with the incident, and he is currently being held at Cabra Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminial Justice Act.

The child was rushed to the Children’s Hospital at Temple Street and is said to be in a serious condition there.

Fianna Fáil councillor Jack Chambers told the media that the little girl and her family are in the thoughts of everyone in the community at this shocking time.

“It’s shocking that this could happen. Hopefully she will make a full recovery,” he said, according to Independent.ie.

Gardaí are continuing their investigations and are appealing to anyone with information that may help them to get in contact.

Our hearts go out to the little girl and her family, and we hope she makes a full recovery.

Devastating incidents like these remind us why it's so important to teach our little ones about road safety, whether it's in the car, on a bike, on the school bus, or just generally.
