The world was stunned and shaken this week, when images of an injured Syrian boy sitting in the back of an ambulance went viral. Today, UNICEF Ireland has responded to the heart-wrenching footage of five-year-old Omran Dagneesh.
The children’s charity has condemned the violence in war-torn Aleppo, insisting that the ‘shocking’ images of little Omran and other children ‘should shake the moral compass of the world’.
Explaining the current living situation for many young children, Executive Director of UNICEF Ireland, Peter Power said: “Two million people in eastern Aleppo are without access to safe running water, because of damage to electricity networks and systems. Every day the risk of an outbreak of a waterborne disease grows.”

In response, the charity has taken the opportunity to highlight their Syria Children’s Crisis appeal, to provide much-needed funding for the delivery of humanitarian aid.
As part of its ‘crucial’ work in Syria, UNICEF is working to fund and generate the delivery of clean drinking water for some 1.2 million people.
So far, the charity has delivered 300,000 litres of fuel to operate water pumping stations and ground wells in the city. Volunteers are also delivering purification tablets on a daily basis.
Clearly, this work is vital for so many children and their families; and if you would like to donate to the cause, just check out this link.
