After a long and harrowing court case, the jury in the Elaine O’Hara trial finally delivered its verdict today.

The jury has found architect Graham Dwyer guilty of murder, and he has been sentenced to life in prison.

According to reports, the jury found Dwyer guilty of murdering Ms O’Hara to fulfil his own sexual gratification.

The court had heard details of how the 42-year-old had lured Ms O’Hara to the Dublin Mountains just hours after she was discharged from a mental health institution, and stabbed her to death.

Dwyer, who has been in prison since he was first charged in October 2013, had denied murder at every stage of the trial, claiming that Ms O’Hara was suicidal when she disappeared three years ago.

Today’s ruling marks the conclusion to a harrowing 10-week trial, the details of which have shocked at every turn.

The case turned on particularly graphic messages and content found on Dwyer’s phone and computer, the details of which shocked members of the court as well as the public.
