There has been yet another gun attack in the U.S as three police officers were killed yesterday in a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The first victim to be named was father-of-one 45-year-old Officer Montrell Jackson.

Montrell had been an officer since 2006 but was shot and killed outside the B-Quik convenience store on Airline Highway in the area.

Montrell posted and the recent gun violence in the US on his social media account just days after the deaths of Alton Sterling and five other police officers in Dallas.

In his emotional post, Montrell spoke about the difficulties in being a black police office in Baton Rouge.

"I'm tired physically and emotionally.

"I swear to God I love this city, but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform, I get nasty hateful looks, and out of uniform some consider me a threat. I've experienced so much in my short life and these last 3 days have tested me to the core.

"This city MUST and WILL get better. I'm working in these streets so any protesters, officers, friends, family or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you."

41-year-old Matthew Gerald was also killed in yesterday’s fatal shooting.

A former Marine and Black Hawk Crew Chief, Matthew had recently graduated from the police academy and is a father of two.

As the last victim remains unidentified, Baton Rouge PD Chief Carl Dabadie has revealed that the 31-year-old had 10 years of experience in law enforcement.

Officials have also said a 41-year-old deputy is also in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Centre.

The shooter has since been identified as 29-year-old Gavin Eugene Long from Kansas City.

It was confirmed by law enforcement officials that Long was the only shooter and he was killed at the scene.
