When most of us think of trips to a museum many of us recall school tours with our friends, not the moment we destroyed a $1.5 million painting.

Sadly, that is one memory that will forever be engrained in this 12-year-old’s head, after he used a Paolo Porpora oil painting to break his fall.

The 350-year-old painting was on display in Taipei when CCTV footage caught the youngster following a crowd of people, before tripping up and falling into the work of art.

Thankfully the boy’s family won’t have to pay the restoration fee, with exhibition curator Andrea Rossi organising the insurance company to cover the cost.

The painting was part of The Face of Leonardo, Images of a Genius exhibition and will be returned to Italy once the repairs are completed.
