You asked

What skin type do I have?

There are generally five different skin types which each need to be treated in their own distinct way. These include; dry, oily, combination, sensitive and normal.

The easiest way to determine which skin category you fall into is by doing a simple test. Wash your face with a cleanser designed for normal skin; rinse well, and pat dry with a soft towel. Allow your skin to breathe for about an hour before evaluating it.

If your skin appears to be glowing, soft and supple you have normal skin. If it feels dehydrated, flaky and tight, your complexion is dry. If your skin displays areas of oil across the forehead, down the nose and on the chin, more commonly known as the T-zone, then you have got combination skin. If you need to blot your whole face with a tissue after washing it, you have oily skin. Finally, if your face feels irritated, itchy or stings a little, it is likely that you have sensitive skin.

Once you have established what skin type you have, it is important that you use products that are suitable for it. Furthermore, it may be necessary to repeat this test four times per year, as seasonal changes have a strong impact on skin and may cause it to change from one type to another.
