There has been a spate of these disturbing stories in recent times, but an emerging trend is seeing the family of abducted children being held accountable for their roles and negligence.

A woman in the States has been arrested this week, after her four-month-old niece was abducted from the car she left unattended.

According to reports, 43-year-old Gail Solomon was looking after the tot when she decided to stop at a sandwich shop. Solomon left the car running while she queued inside the Subway shop at Bay Shore, and saw a man jumping into the vehicle and driving away.

Police say that the carjacker went onto to pick up two men before dumping the car several blocks away.

Solomon contacted the authorities as soon as the incident happened, and after locating the car, officers recovered the child safely. The tot was reportedly unharmed.

Police went on to arrest Solomon, who was released without bail shortly after. Her Legal Aid attorney has refused to comment on the case to the media.

Thank heavens this child was found safe and sound.
