Thankfully, the traditional image of a woman’s ‘place’ being in the home has been turned on its head in modern life, but it seems one town in Italy never got the memo.
According to reports, a 40-year-old Italian woman is being sued by her own husband for being ‘negligent’ in her care of him and their home.
The unnamed 47-year-old has filed a lawsuit against his wife, claiming “bad management of housework” as the principle cause.
While one might have expected the Court of Latina, in Sonnino, to dismiss the case as utterly ridiculous, it was approved to go to trial for next October. If found guilty, the woman could go to prison for six years.
During a preliminary hearing, the court heard how the woman had ‘insulted’ her husband by not cooking or cleaning enough, and ‘forcing’ him out of the marital bed as well as to live in unhygienic conditions.
An investigation is now being carried out ahead of the trial later this year.
