57-year-old Anita Glew, who made a decision to contact police following a family argument in 1975, has this week seen her brother receive a suspended sentence at Leeds Crown Court.

After decades deliberating, Anita finally contacted police in 2011 and recalled an event which took place in December 1975 and resulted in the loss of her two front teeth.

According to Anita, she was assaulted by her brother, 61-year-old Patrick Ackroyd, following a row over John Lennon's Christmas track Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

Having been punched in the face by her older brother, Anita was forced to lie about the assault by her mother and kept the secret to herself until recently.

Patrick was interviewed by police in 2012 and admitted to assaulting his sister and causing injury - an event which resulted in Anita being required to wear a dental plate with false teeth ever since.

Commenting on her decision to contact the police, Anita who has not spoken to her brother in four years, said: "Everyday I am reminded of what he did. Everyday I have to stick a plate in my mouth with two false front teeth. Even after all these years it is too painful to think about."

Elaborating on her motivation to finally reveal the truth, she explained: "He’s a bully and in my eyes he got away with it. We never told my mum. We went to the police and she died a month later not knowing."

Remarking on her brother's sentence last Thursday, Anita said: "All I can say is he has lied and lied and lied. He lied about everything except knocking my teeth out. It has been dealt with now and it is time we moved on."

According to the Daily Mail, the court heard that Patrick Ackroyd had no other convictions before or after the event in December 1975.
