To hear of anyone being lonely at this time of the year is heartbreaking, especially when it’s a young child, so the following story will really tug at your heartstrings.

The world has rallied around a 10-year-old dubbed ‘Britain’s loneliest schoolboy’, to bring him festive cheer during the holidays.

Aron Anderson is 10 years old, and his name has made headlines in recent weeks after it was revealed that he is the only pupil attending school on a small Scottish island.

According to reports, Out Skerries native Aron had classmates up until recently, but was left a lone pupil after they moved on to secondary school on another island.

When Reddit moderator BesottedScot found out that Aron’s best friends are farmyard animals, they decided that something had to be done to bring love and friendship to this little boy over Christmas.

BesottedScot proceeded to launch a campaign on the social networking site, asking subscribers in the Scotland area to send Christmas greetings to Aron, who is one of only 70 residents on Out Skerries.

“We have 20,000 subscribers on here, and if even one percent of you send a card, that’s 200 cards to a lonely boy to cheer his Christmas right up. I hope you’ll do me proud and send some nice festive cheer,” they wrote at the time.

Well, as it turns out, that festive cheer has been coming Aron’s way in buckets, with the campaign becoming viral, and cards making their way to Out Skerries by the van-load!

Happy Christmas, Aron – know that people all over the world are thinking of you!
