We thought it was time to pack up our woolly jumpers and winter coats, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. It looks like we’ll be wearing plenty of layers this week as Met Éireann has warned the country that extremely cold weather has been forecasted.

They have told the public to be prepared for heavy snow showers which are set to hit the Emerald Isle early in the week.

“Exceptionally cold weather will occur this week. Air and ground temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees below normal, with significant wind chill and penetrating severe frosts,” they shared.

Eastern areas will be affected by snow showers early in the week. The showers are expected to spread throughout the country by mid-week.

The snow showers will be disruptive so it’s important to take extra caution if travelling this week.

The Yellow weather warning will stay in place until Saturday evening.

Met Éireann has recommended using the government’s Be Winter Ready website for advice on how to handle the frosty conditions.
