These days, there’s a strong emphasis on keeping up exercise during pregnancy.

While some expectant mums enjoy taking exercise, others find the fatigue and extra weight makes it difficult to stay active.

Although mums-to-be are encouraged to stick with “gentle” exercise during pregnancy, this mum couldn’t give up her favourite fitness routine: pole-dancing!

Fitness fan Sandy Poguter sought her doctor’s advice when she became pregnant with her son and was advised that she could keep pole-dancing for as long as she felt comfortable.

The Austrian model found she was able to continue her dancing right up to the end of her pregnancy and documented herself climbing, twirling and even hanging upside down off the pole effortlessly while pregnant.

In other photos, she even performs acrobatics and balancing tricks with other dancers.

We are seriously impressed (and slightly scared) by Sandy’s flexibility and strength on the pole. Even while heavily pregnant, she still looks incredibly fit and muscular.

Her exercise routine divided the opinions of her Instagram followers, however.

One commenter wrote: “Why the hell would somebody do that???? Are you nuts? Sport - great, pole dance - good, pregnant on pole - not good!!!”

While another said: “I had to come to your page just to ask: ‘Are you out of your mind?!’ “

Others applauded Sandy’s ability to pole dance while pregnant and her obvious dedication to health and fitness. One fan wrote: “You look amazing and I don't have to ask if you know what you’re doing because I'm sure you've checked. Congratulations as well.”

"So beautiful," said another commenter. "I need to know how to do that!"

Sandy is now very busy caring for her little boy Lenox who was born last month and breastfeeding has replaced pole dancing for now. We’re sure she will be back to her dancing once he is a bit bigger.

If you are unsure whether a certain form of exercise is safe during pregnancy, always seek your doctor’s advice first.
