We have all heard the stories of criminals luring drivers out of their cars by placing baby prams in the middle of the road, but it seems there’s another dangerous trick doing the rounds.

A young woman took to Facebook this week, to warn others to be vigilant if they find an item of clothing on their car’s windscreen.

College student Ashley Hardacre, from Flint in Michigan, posted a photo of a flannel shirt wrapped around her windscreen wipers.

She explained that she had just finished her late-night shift at a shopping mall, when she got into her car and noticed the item through her window.

Instantly, she got a bad feeling: “There were two cars near me, and one was running, so I immediately felt uneasy and knew I couldn’t get out and get it off.”

After a failed attempt at getting the shirt off by turning her wipers on, clever Ashley decided to get away from the car park.

“I had seen posts lately about people finding things under their windshield wipers in the Burton/Flint area, as an attempt to get girls out of their cars and distracted,” she explained.

“Luckily, I knew better than to remove the shirt with cars around me, so I drove over to a place where I was safe, and quickly rolled down my window and got the shirt off.”

While Ashley will never know how the shirt got there, or what the person who placed it there had in mind; she has no doubt that it was an intentional action.

“It definitely frightened me a little bit. I’m so glad my parents had informed me that it was happening in our area. I just never thought it would potentially happen to my car,” she wrote.

Ashley’s story serves as an important warning to all of us – be vigilant, and stay safe.
