Being pregnant is an extremely special time and while most of it is full of love, joy and excitement, it can also bring about fear of the unknown, anxiety and a whole host of unpleasant things.

Expecting a baby is awesome, but it can also bring about a few not-so-awesome experiences:

1. Swollen feet
Swollen feet means none of your shoes fit anymore.

2. Inability to get comfy
Tying to get comfy in bed or even on the couch is a huge struggle.

3. Crazy hormones
Those crazy hormones will have you crying, laughing and feeling like you are going loopy at least twice a day.

4. Back pain
You are carrying a little extra weight so don’t be surprised by this.

5. People touching your belly
Seriously, even the strangers in the street want to have a feel of baby.

6. Haemorrhoids
Invest in a doughnut pillow, it’s the only way.

7. Visiting the toilet, a lot
You are peeing for two so it is not surprising that you will need to visit the toilet that bit more.

8. Peeing on yourself
When you laugh, sneeze or cough, a little bit of pee can escape.

9. Getting sick, all the time
Thankfully, it does get a little bit better as time goes on.

10. Extra hair, and no, we don’t mean on your head
Yes, you might get luscious thick hair on your head but you are likely to also get some baby fuzz on your stomach.

11. Leg cramps
Waking up in the middle of the night with leg cramp is awful, especially when you can’t simply jump up to ease the pain.

12. Stretch marks
Those purple lines will eventually fade and you will look on them with a sense of achievement, but right now they are probably one of the worst things ever.

13. Constant stream of asking when you’re due
Well wishers will constantly feel the need to ask when you are due. A sign above your head is probably the only way to stop this.

14. Not being able to see your toes
Although, this has its upsides - you won’t be able to see your swollen feet.

Yes, pregnancy is tough and you are bound to go through experiences that are not particularly pleasant. However, when your baby arrives and you are cuddling them in your arms, all of the 14-not-so-awesome things will have been totally worth it.
