Being pregnant means that you need to cut down and omit certain items from your diet, such as soft cheeses. But for many women, the hardest part is limiting their caffeine consumption, which means cutting out their beloved daily cup of coffee.

If that has left you in a bit of a sweat, thankfully, there are alternatives that you can choose, and some are even nicer than a cup of the black stuff.

Green tea
While it does have a little caffeine in it it is significantly less than a cup of coffee, and if you use the same leaves for the whole day, it becomes really insignificant. However, drinking any kid of herbal tea should always be done in moderation and you should talk to your GP to make sure it is safe for you to do so, as some may advise against it.

Hot water and lemon
Sometimes it’s holding the warm mug that we really miss, so instead, opt for a cup of hot water and lemon. It actually tastes really nice and while not quite a coffee is is a perfectly good substitute.

Decaf coffee
Decaf coffee contains tiny amounts of caffeine and a treat every now and then is ok. But you should always consult your doctor if unsure.

Decaf tea
Tea already has lower quantities of caffeine so go for a decaffeinated tea instead of a coffee.

Eat fresh fruit
If it’s the energy boost that you really miss, stock up on fresh fruit which can give you a blood sugar boost to get you over that 3pm slump and keep you going until bedtime.

Eat yoghurt
Another great way to get your energy boost is by eating yoghurts. They are full of protein and carbs which will give you a much-needed boost.

Sparkling water
Keep a bottle of sparkling water or flavoured water close to hand – feeling fatigued can be a sign that you are dehydrated so make sure you keep your fluid intake up. if you are craving a cup of coffee, reach for this instead.
