The past two weeks have been marred by tragedy, and we would imagine that many of our readers were left just as shocked and upset as we were, upon hearing that a four-year-old Taiwanese girl was beheaded in the street earlier this week.

While we can’t imagine what the child’s family must be going through after the random attack, we have been touched today by her mother’s inspiring words of love and hope.

Taking to Facebook to address to horrific tragedy, Claire Wang shared a photo of herself and her husband cuddling their late daughter, writing: “Fortunately, I had held you tightly and told you I loved you every day.”

“Please, keep trusting people, because society is still beautiful. Please, give your dearest family members a hug. That would be the most comforting and caring thing you could do for us,” she added.

In an interview with local media, Ms Wang also demonstrated incredible composure as she addressed calls for the perpetrator of the murder to face the death penalty.

“I believe the suspects in these kinds of random killings lose their minds at that moment. This is not a problem that can be solved by passing a law. I hope we can address the problem from its root, from the perspective of family and education, so that there will no longer be people like him [the perpetrator] in our society,” she said.

Our hearts go out to the family at this tragic time.
