From helping other sick children to saving others' lives, we are constantly hearing stories of the sheer courage of children. Now, we are once again bowled over by the bravery of a child in the States.

A three-year-old cancer patient has become an internet sensation after sharing an inspirational photograph from her last day of chemotherapy.

Little Sophia Sandoval, from Texas, posed in a Wonder Woman costume while standing on her hospital bed, holding a placard which read, ‘My last day of chemo. It was tough, but I was tougher’.

Sophia’s mum, Rossio, posted the incredible photo to Sophia’s official Facebook page, which has documented her battle with the illness.

Since initially sharing the photo on another page, it has received almost one million likes, with commenters sending their messages of love, encouragement and admiration for the brave little girl.

Speaking to Today.com after the photo went viral, Rossio praised her daughter for her bravery through what has been an incredibly difficult time.

“She’s so strong. She’s a superhero. With all the positive comments, I think it’s helping us to be positive, and know that she’s going to be all right,” said Rossio.

Sophia was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a highly malignant brain tumour, last May. She underwent immediate surgery to remove the tumour underneath her cerebellum, and had her final chemotherapy session at the end of January.

Rossio said that Sophia has always admired and been inspired by female superheroes such as Wonder Woman and the Pink Power Ranger, so this was a particularly apt way to mark the end of her therapy.

She is due to go for an MRI scan in the coming weeks to make sure that she is cancer-free.

What an inspiring little girl. We are so happy to hear that she is recovering, and we wish her all the health and happiness in the world.
