The very early stages of pregnancy can pass by many women without them even knowing they are expecting. However, your baby is going through a lot at the moment, developing and growing at a fast rate, from tiny embryo to a more defined little person.

If you are wondering what your baby is getting up to at seven weeks gestation, here's what you need to know:

1. Your baby is around the size of a blueberry at this stage, approximately half an inch in size.

2. They will have slightly webbed toes and fingers and their arms and legs are starting to grow a little longer and stronger.

3. Eventually they will divide into shoulder, arm and hand segments.

4. Your baby’s mouth is also starting to form at this stage, as is their tongue.

5. They will also be on their third set of kidneys – these last ones that they are developing now are permanent. Your baby has not started to produce urine at this stage but this will start in around a week.

6. The liver is currently creating large amounts of red blood cells, but eventually the bone marrow will take over this job once it is formed.

7. Your little one is also moving a little, which could explain the butterfly feelings you may be experiencing.

How you’re feeling:

Most women at this stage feel a little nauseous, which is due in part to your changing hormone levels.

You may also find that you need to urinate a lot more as your growing uterus is starting to press on your bladder, and your changing hormone levels are affecting fluid in your body.

Your breasts may also feel tender and swollen and you'll feel quite tired.
