The issue of gender stereotyping with regards children's clothes has hit the headlines numerous times in recent months.

Two mothers in the States recently took umbrage over the lack of diversity in clothing for children and set about their developing their own fashion line which highlights the varied interests pursued by little girls, and if this recent story is anything to go by, you're never too young to air your views on the topic!

One little girl in the UK decided to put pen to paper and ask a very straightforward question in a bid to get some much-needed answers.

8-year-old Sophia Trow, frustrated by gender stereotyping in children's footwear, contacted Clarks to discuss the Clarks Stomp Claw Range.

In a concise letter addressed to the footwear chain, Sophia expressed her concerns and suggested the footwear giant rethink their marketing strategy.

Enquiring as to why dinosaur shoes were aimed solely at boys, the confident little girl laid her cards on the table, writing: "Why can't girls have dinosaur shoes? I don't like how girls have flowery shoes. I like dinosaurs and fossils, so I think that other girls might as well."

Proudly backing her daughter, 34-year-old Jane Trow said: "I don't want them [girls] hampered by expectations that tell them how they should behave as girls. I want them to be able to do whatever they want to do and become strong women."

Determined to placate their customer, a spokesperson fro Clarks commented on Sophia's concerns, saying: "Clarks are sorry to hear that Sophia was informed these shows aren't suitable for girls. The Stomposaurus range can safely be worn by all children. We are also developing a broader range of unisex styles which will be available from Autumn/ Winter this year."

Well done to Sophia for raising a very important issue and to Clarks for swiftly addressing her concerns.

We're sure many little girls will be very grateful for her efforts!
