According to a new UK poll, it seems it is not just students and young adults who binge drink as figures show that the problem extends to British mothers.

The poll, which was commissioned by ITV’s This Morning, surveyed 1,000 mums with children under the age of 18.

The results show that, of those surveyed, 28% admit to being drunk in front of their child with a quarter being so intoxicated they have put their own safety at risk.

15% say they regularly drink in front of their kids with under half blaming work related stress. However, a third said that it helps them deal with the stress of looking after their children.

Unfortunately, while many are aware of the dangers of binge drinking and even feel guilty about their habit, almost half said they would not give up the bottle.

Adam Vandermark, editor of This Morning, says: “While most are aware of the perils of binge drinking, it's shocking to see statistics like this that show that many mothers are drinking so much that they feel guilty, while some have even admitted to putting their lives at risk.”

Shockingly, one in six of those mums polled admit that they have been too hungover to be able to take care of their children.

Vandermark believes the problem needs to be addressed saying: “This lifestyle appears to be a weekly or even daily occurrence and not just during the festive season. It's important to discuss issues like this and highlight the long term dangers.”
