Breakfast and school

5 1
Most teachers would agree that giving children a good breakfast is key to having good concentration in the classroom, yet many schoolchildren are going to school without having any breakfast.
Breakfast literally means ‘breaking the fast’, after going 10-12 hours overnight without food, your child’s energy reserves will be low and their bodies and brains in need of fuel.

Research, has also shown that people who regularly eat breakfast tend to be healthier and maintain a healthier weight than those who skip the first meal of the day.
A balanced breakfast should include a mixture of foods from the different food groups. A healthy breakfast cereal with milk is a good option as it provides many important nutrients such as calcium, iron, dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Eating a healthy breakfast should ideally provide children with a quarter of their daily needs for essential vitamins and minerals.
