Are you an oversharent parent?

This is beautiful little baby Exton Elias (and mum Susan) who was born in February, as introduced to the world by proud dad Roberty Downey Jr. He [Downey Jr] admitted that he had to "exercise just a little restraint" with photos of Exton, and followed with “He’s so darn cute".

Being born into a celebrity family can't be easy, it's a life us mere mortals will never experience (thankfully, in many cases). The level of public intrusion in their lives can be alarming and privacy is certainly a high price to pay. But it does get me wondering about how us mere mortals deal with our privacy which is, for the most part, entirely under our control. Many of us are guilty of sharing lots of details and photos of our kids on Facebook, it's almost 'standard' these days. But are we guilty of sharing too much? I heard a phrase recently (from the US of course!) - 'oversharenting', which is where parents share a lot of information and photos of their kids online. It's an interesting concept and I wonder if we should be worried? In this digital world, where what's said online, stays online, surely we need to consider how our kids will react when they google themselves (or whatever the equivalent will be) in 20 years. Do you think they will want to see the images of themselves, that you considered to be 'Facebook gold' back in the day online for all the world to see, including current, ex or prospective girlfriends/boyfriends, employees etc. Eeek. It's like getting the family album out, but on a whole new level.

Does anybody else think they might be over-sharenting?
