Call to ban food colouring in children's medicine

Mums understand just how hard it can be to give their kids medicine when they are ill. Most children refuse to take it unless it is brightly coloured or has a certain flavour but a recent survey found that these bright colours contain additives that are linked to hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder.

Under EU law synthetic colourings are banned from food and drinks targeted at children under 36 months but there is no law to stop them being used in medicines.

It is argued that “over-the-counter medicines are only intended for occasional use in small quantities over a very short period of time” but Action On Additives wants a legal ban on their use in medicines and encourages parents to protest the manufacturers.

What do you think? Do you agree with the experts? Will you take a stand and protest against the manufacturers?
