A new survey has found the average child now receives their first mobile phone at the age of seven.

The majority of parents claim they gave their youngsters mobiles for safety reasons and ‘peace of mind’ while 22% of parents bought them because their children’s classmates owned handsets.

A decade ago the average age was 13.2.

What do you think? Is seven too young to have a mobile phone? What age was your child when they were given their first mobile?
