A new study has revealed that children are more likely to develop depression by the age of 18 if their mother experienced it during pregnancy.

The large study, conducted by Bristol University, shows that depression causes the stress hormone to be raised which in turn may affect the development of the unborn baby.

The research confirms that mental health development starts before birth and calls for more support to be provided to women who are suffering depression during pregnancy to help them and future generations.

According to the research, treating depression during pregnancy is the most effective way to prevent future generations developing it.

What do you think? Did you develop depression during pregnancy? How did you cope? If you did, do you feel you received adequate help and support?
