A new survey has found that domestic chores and hectic work schedules aren't leaving mums and dads with much time for family fun.

Research conducted by IKEA found that the average family spends just over half an hour of quality time a day due to their busy schedules.

In a year, a typical family will spend just 15 days together, with Christmas and the occasional Sunday the most popular days for family gatherings.

The study discovered that working long or anti-social hours was the most common reason why families spent so little quality time together, with evenings and weekends dominated by household duties.

Gemma Arranz, a spokesperson from IKEA, said: “'Modern family life is hectic for many parents. Daily chores and housework are an essential part of family life but can also make home life feel very routine.”

Although the majority of families have good intentions when organising things for the family to do, 25% of the time these plans fall thorough with over half of respondents admitting they suffer from a hectic domestic life.

The majority of parents feel their children are growing up too fast, yet six in ten say their weekly routine doesn’t give them enough time to enjoy their kids at their age.
