Week 1

Saturday afternoon, myself and my teenage daughter headed off to our local Lidl. With a calculator in hand, we started surveying the shelves.

I'm very conscious of checking labels for sugar content and, in an unfamiliar environment, this was going to take time. Very quickly our trolley filled up with fresh fruit and veg which I did find there was a large variety of.

Every item we examined was clearly priced and labelled.  We also came across in-house offers on certain products which ultimately brought the end figure down.

Planning tasty dinners in my head as we perused the aisles, with us being a big busy family, a lot of Monday to Friday dinners need to be quick and easy.

The range of bread, both pre-packed and fresh, was quite frankly fantastic. With so many school lunches flying out the door in our house, sometimes I wonder if I should have been a baker! I definitely saved here between bagels, sliced bread and the healthy options.

I am the dubious pre-packed meat buyer, always believing fresh from the counter is best. We indulged in the Inisvale Irish Beef Quarter Pounders for our cheat night (they were very tasty) and some mini chicken fillets along with cold meats and bacon bits.

I loved that everything was eye level, there was no stretching to reach items which is a pet hate of mine.

My best buy of the week was definitely the dish washer tablets - after spending years on over-priced main brands which sometimes leave an after-taste in your dishes. The W5 All In One have left my dishes sparkling with no residue or after taste.
