My 7 sins of pregnancy

I was super careful on my first pregnancy ... practically lived in a bubble, but afterwards, everyone told me I was off the wall and way too overprotective, so I decreased the defcon status for baby no.2 ... but now I can't stop feeling guilty about it. So here's my confession ....
  1. I smoked – awful I know. This was most definitely not intentional. I wasn’t aware that I was pregnant and I used to occasionally have a social cigarette. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I was destroyed with guilt. This, above all other things, scared the living daylights out of me. Needless to say I gave up when I found out. And actually never looked back since.
  2. Coffee – I had coffee (fully leaded) throughout. I’m addicted. I just couldn’t lay off it entirely. Even a day without the stuff and I start getting hot sweats and headaches. I did cut back, and I tried to intersperse the real stuff with the decaf stuff … as if to try to trick my mind. Sometimes worked better than others.
  3. Soft cheese - I ate it. At Christmas there were so many yummies that I couldn’t have, and this one temptation proved just too much for me. During one moment of weakness at my sister's house I nibbled on crackers and cheese. And it was as beautiful as it always had been. Although I felt pretty sick after it, so it was a one time only thing.
  4. I carried heavy loads – namely my 18 month old son. I did consider attaching wheels to him for those awkward ‘up up up mummy’ moments, but there just never seemed to be time. And besides, bending down to fit them would have been equally as difficult (and probably dangerous) I got huge very quickly.
  5. Ice cream cone. I had one. To be honest, I didn’t know these were off limits. I wouldn’t mind, I never normally go for them.
  6. Wine – like the soft cheese, I had a glass. Aaaaahhh I have to be honest here. I had a few glasses. Quite a few. We're not talking morning noon and night ... but I did have them.  Oh and since we’re being honest here, I indulged in one glass of beer (truth be told it made me feel really sick and gave me horrendous heartburn, so it truly was just the one glass).
  7. Runny eggs – I don’t actually have eggs that often, but when I do, they have to be cooked the right way. Runny.

I am now the proud mummy of a 3 month old baby girl called Gemma. She weighed a healthy 8lbs and is the light of my life (along with my DS of course). But I feel guilty, and I feel like I should’ve tried harder.  Did anybody else out there indulge during pregnancy in things they shouldn't have ...?
