My son attends a Catholic school but will not be making his Communion

Hi MummyPages

My son is about to start 2nd class in a catholic school but won't be making the holy communion. We don't practice religion but are very respectful of their beliefs. If we could have him in a non-denominational school we would have from the beginning but couldn't get a place anywhere close to where we live. Attending the catholic school and taking part in the religion activities/education hasn't been an issue thus far, as we feel it important to learn of religion while he hasn't been 'practising' it in school or at home. Anyway, what I want to know is whether any other parents are in a similar position and how their child may have got on in 2nd class while other children made their communion? How much does the communion interfere with the actual education/lesson time during school hours? I'm just concerned about how much time is devoted to the preparation towards the communion or if there are any other significant issues or concerns that may have arose during this particular year of primary school. Any insight would be welcomed gratefully, many thanks in advance.
