Following the recent births of record-breaking babies in both Spain and Germany, obstetricians are highlighting a rise in the size of newborns.

A spokesperson from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says that while there are a number of reasons for this, the biggest is the global increase of obesity and diabetes.

While bigger babies are usually described by admirers as “healthy” and “bouncy,” she also added that babies who are born bigger have a higher risk of being obese, as well as developing diabetes and heart problems.

What do you think? Have you noticed an increase in the weight of newborns? Did you have a big baby?
